The trendy nail lacquer brand OPI Products Inc. and Dell Inc. hope to turn the laptop computer into the newest fashion accessory.
As a design option, the computer company will offer a collection of laptops — the Dell Mini, Inspiron and Studio models — that can be colored with any one of OPI’s 26 lacquer shades, according to Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI executive vice president and creative director. Dell will at first offer eight of OPI’s colors, then build up to a palette of 26 hues by February. Of the 26 shades, 20 are OPI standards and six are holiday colors, such as Dear Santa, a shimmering red. According to Weiss-Fischmann, the name of the shade as well as the OPI identification will be visible on a computer’s lid.
At first, the design option will be available online through the Dell Design Studio on dell.com. In the spring, the service will be available at retail through Best Buy and Wal-Mart, according to Weiss-Fischmann.
Known for its funky colors and quirky names, such as I’m Not Really a Waitress and Princesses Rule!, OPI sees much benefit in the deal. “It further strengthens the brand,” Weiss-Fischmann said, adding Dell’s plan “recognizes the importance of nail polish and the roll it plays in a woman’s life.”
