Prestige lip-color sales were up 24 percent in November, according to a report released by The NPD Group. Karen Grant, NPD vice president and global beauty industry analyst, said the growth should be attributed to heavy lip-color marketing and beauty trends. “The trend of women seeking to make a bold makeup statement continues as marketers showcase lips more prominently than seen in prior years,” Grant said. Lip color is also the main driver of growth in prestige makeup, a top performing category in beauty this year. In November, 1.8 million prestige lip-color products were sold in the U.S., up 22 percent over November of last year. “Lip color can totally transform a woman’s look, and even affect her mood; that’s a lot of benefit for something that costs around $20,” Grant said. According to NPD’s 2014 Makeup In-Depth Consumer Report, lip color is the lip product of choice among women, and 33 percent of them use it more than once per day.
