Beauty entrepreneur Eric Sakas is back with a new line with an aesthetic that is distinctly French.
Lucie + Pompette, Sakas’ new line, is launching online now at lucieandpompette.com.
Why French? Sakas is a self-professed Francophile — as a child, he took French lessons and wanted to become a pastry chef. After college, he studied in Paris before moving to New York to work with the late Kevyn Aucoin on Aucoin’s line.
The brand premise is built on two Parisian characters: the ultra-chic, beauty-obsessed, globetrotting Lucie, and her canine sidekick, Pompette.
“Paris has always been a place that delights me,” said Sakas. “On one trip, I was sitting at a café in the Marais and a saw a chic girl with a small dog. She hopped on her Vespa and took off. I thought to myself, ‘That’s Lucie. That’s my girl.’”
All products are inspired by Lucie’s Parisian indulgences, from gourmet chocolates and bouquets of flowers to French pastries.
“When Lucie can’t find what she is looking for, she simply creates it, all with joie de vivre,” said Sakas, explaining that strategy is how he will roll out additional products — as Lucie’s creations.
Rolling out now are Lip Batter, a 3-in-1 lip gloss, plumper and treatment, available in five shades, each $19.50. Mi-Mi is a sheer baby pink with subtle shimmer; Go-Go is a sheer honey-nude with shimmer; Bon-Bon is a sheer pink-nude with shimmer; La-La is a sheer nude-peach with shimmer, and Can-Can is a sheer, warm berry with subtle shimmer. Launching at the same time is the Lucie Bag, a 3.5-inch by 7.5-inch cosmetics clutch. The $18.50 bag is available in two designs: Lucie and Pompette walking through a field where the blooms are lightly shaded lips, and the other a view of Lucie and Pompette strolling the streets of Paris. Each bag is finished with an Eiffel Tower charm as the zipper pull.
Sakas noted that he has plenty of products in the pipeline, including a skin-care line he hopes to launch in spring 2016. As well, additional color stockkeeping units — including Bonjour Contour, a contouring product, and a matte-red lipstick called Crème de Paris, are slated to be launched this spring.
