PARIS — L’Oréal is taking root in the organic beauty category. The French beauty giant announced Tuesday it has acquired French organic beauty manufacturer Laboratoire Sanoflore for an undisclosed sum.
Sanoflore is expected to ring up sales of 15 million euros, or $19 million at current exchange, in 2006. In a statement, L’Oréal said the 20-year-old brand, which employs 147 people and is based in the Drome region of southeast France, is to become part of its active cosmetics division, which also includes the pharmacy brand Vichy.
L’Oréal said it intends to capitalize on consumer demand for organic products and to expand Sanoflore’s international reach.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Sanoflore, a company that specializes in natural and organic products, to the family,” said Brigitte Liberman, managing director of L’Oréal’s active cosmetics division, in the statement.
