For its newest initiative, the Fragrance Foundation, working in partnership with Firmenich, will explore the collision between fragrance and art.
Between May 10 and May 13, the scent-based organizations will cosponsor New York-based contemporary artist Maria Loboda’s color-coded garden installation, “A Smoking Room in a Palais in Brussels as Seen From the Entrance: 1905” at the Frieze New York art festival in Randall’s Island Park.
Loboda’s work will display an exact replica of an illustration of a European interior design motif from the 19th century. That two-dimensional image will be translated into a living landscape of plants, flowers and shrubs.
Firmenich’s perfumer Honorine Blanc will create an exclusive fragrance titled “Smoking Room in a Private Palais” to evoke the ambiance of Loboda’s installation. The scent will be distributed via blotter cards throughout the outdoor exhibition.
“My work transforms the room and colors into a landscape,” said Loboda. “Then Firmenich will transform it into a vapor, very alchemistic.” Elizabeth Musmanno, president of The Fragrance Foundation added, “It is our mission to promote fragrance and art.”
