NEW YORK — Mixed in with dozens of awards at Cosmetics Executive Women’s 21st annual Beauty Awards, held Friday at the Waldorf Astoria was a new twist that CEW president Carlotta Jacobson hopes will drive sales at retail.
The Insiders’ Choice Digital Beauty Guide, which will be launched Monday, is an interactive digital magazine for consumers that includes winning and finalist products, beauty tips, trend forecasts and clickable icons to purchase products from retailers. An online version of the guide will be available on CEW.org, and an app version will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play by using the search term “CEW Beauty Awards Insiders’ Choice Guide.” The winning products are highlighted in red.

CEW chairwoman Jill Scalamandre, senior vice president for the Philosophy brand and chief marketing officer for Coty skin care, noted that QVC will feature the products on July 30, and said Nordstrom is also planning to feature the winners.
Last year’s host, actress-comedian Aisha Tyler, returned to the same role this year, delivering an energy-filled monologue that was at times peppered both with sexual innuendos and profanity — which the crowd of more than 1,100 attendees appeared to enjoy. Tyler also made a point of taking a selfie with Martha Stewart, on the stage as an awards presenter.
For the first time in award history, there was a tie in the Eco Beauty Award category — between Coola Suncare and Marula Pure Beauty Oil. This award, sponsored by Givaudan, is given to a brand that has moved further toward the goal of sustainability.
QVC’s Beauty Quest Award, which offers the winning brand an opportunity to hawk their wares on the channel, went to investment banker-turned-product developer Jill Scalisi for her line, Scalisi Skincare, founded in 2012.
CEW’s more than 6,000 members in the U.S. selected 210 finalists from more than 750 entries. The 2015 CEW Beauty Award winners are:
