Crimping made a comeback backstage at Gypsy Sport on Sunday morning.
Laurent Philippon for Bumble & bumble created a full range of individualistic looks. “Rio [Uribe] was maybe one of the first of this movement of individuality, very varied, no gender boundaries,” Philippon said. “He’s spent a lot of time in Paris lately, and was very touched by the immigrants and he has such a big heart and he understood that fashion can also be a very nice platform to send a message of love, and that’s what he told me for inspiration…. We’re still respecting a lot of the personality because there is so much personality in the casting.”
The hair looks spanned the dreadlock spectrum, with a few beehives and ponytail braids that stretched to the calf. On the dreadlock front, Philippon left preexisting dreadlocks in place, and crafted dreadlocks for other models (made and then attached to models), and for others, heavily crimped and pulled hair behind the head into a dreadlock-inspired block. For beehives, he twisted hair from the nape of the neck upwards and sprayed Bb’s Strong Hold Hairspray to keep locks in place. The braids were sprayed with Desigual hairspray before being braided.
Fatima Thomas for MAC Cosmetics created an “urban outdoors” beauty look for the show, “[as] if people live outside, but in urban areas,” Thomas said. “What happens when you’re outside all the time and you’re getting constant exposure to sun no matter the season? What happens to the skin if you don’t have shelter or if you don’t have grooming products? What could happen to your face? What that translates into is some freckles on some folks, a little sunburn across the top of the nose and the top of the cheek and the forehead, and this really wild, feral brow and this lip that’s kind of wild too,” Thomas said.
To create the look, she prepped skin with Prep & Prime Skin Refined Zone Treatment and used Studio Finish concealer. For the eyes, Thomas used a fluffy brush to spread the shimmering mustard Dijonnaise and deep purple Wine List (from the MAC Trend Forecast Fall ’17 Eye Palette) on the lids and under the eye, with Wine List concentrated on the lower inner eye. Brows were either brushed and filled with eyeshadow until bushy or left invisible.
Thomas created the sunburn by buffing Give Me Sun and Sun Powder across the nose, tops of cheeks and top of forehead. For the freckles, models were lightly covered in protective gear before being flicked with a combination of NW58 Studio Fix Fluid and Black Black airbrush foundation off of a mascara wand. For lips, Thomas used Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Carnivorous, a burgundy, buffed onto lips with an eyeshadow brush and blended outside of the lips with a clean, fluffy brush. “It’s a berry stain but it does not respect the boundaries of the natural lip, it’s going to go outside of that,” Thomas said.
Nails were untouched.
