Heavily made-up eyes helped turn up the fantasy at Prada’s fairyland-esque runway show.
Makeup artist Pat McGrath, who worked with designer Miuccia Prada’s idea to create the look backstage at the show, said the eye was “insect-like, with elements of art deco and war paint.” McGrath achieved the look by smudging a black powder all around the eye, and into the socket. She then topped the center of the eyelid and inner corner with an iridescent red or gold powder. Skin was kept natural, and the lips were made neutral with concealer — but just before the models walked out, McGrath layered the lips with clear gloss.
While the eye was the main focus of the look, the hair was styled in a back-combed soft, loose, untied braid. Hair stylist Guido Palau said, “it’s a dark play on romance, pieces are falling out so it really blends in with the looks that will come out on the catwalk.”
