That’s usually the mantra for makeup and hair backstage at Versace — and this time around was no exception.
Sexy of course meant a smoky eye, which makeup artist Pat McGrath whipped up this time in hues of bronze and brown and finished with black/brown eyeliner, a row of false lashes and what the British-born makeup artist calls “lashings of mazzie” — meaning black mascara.
She finished the face with a slick of pale pink lip gloss and gold cream on the cheekbones.
If a smoky eye is Versace’s signature makeup look, then the brushed-out curl is the fashion house’s signature hair look. Before hairstylist Guido Palau curled the bottom of the models’ hair with a 2-inch barrel curling iron, he added Redken Fabricate to give it added texture.
“It’s beautiful, rich, thick hair that was inspired by Lauren Hutton in the Seventies,” Palau said. The hairstylist managed to talk above the din of the blow-dryers to explain the center-parted look, which was brushed out at the end.
