Cynthia Erivo donned a full face of the TikTok viral Korean makeup brand TirTir to host the 78th annual Tony Awards on Sunday in New York City. The 38-year-old actress’ beauty look noticeably conveyed the complexities of her “Wicked” character Elphaba’s personality with sky-high, inky black lashes and vibrant, purple-hued highlighter.
Her makeup was done by celebrity artist Joanna Simkin, whose client list includes Gabrielle Union-Wade and Zayn Malik. Simkin has famously collaborated with Erivo to create several of her major red carpet beauty moments this awards season. While she’s partnered with a handful of U.S. brands such as E.l.f. Beauty and Benefit Cosmetics for Erivo’s glam in the past, she used TirTir for the Tonys.
TirTir, founded in South Korea in 2016, first gained significant recognition on TikTok for their Cushion Foundation, a hydrating, lightweight formula designed to give the skin a semi-matte finish. Beauty creators collectively garnered millions of views, testing the innovative product and revealing its full-coverage capabilities in 36 different shades.
Simkin built Erivo’s makeup on top of the TirTir Milk Skin Toner to first lock in hydration. She then added the Ceramic Milk Ampoule and the Mask Fit Red Cusion Foundaton in shades 43N and 45W to achieve a subtle dewiness under the blurring makeup. Black shadow was smudged along her eyelids, adding even more dimension under the wispy lash extensions, which were Kiss Lash Couture The Muses in Noblesse and cut-up pieces of Kiss Lash Couture Masterpiece in Avant-Garde. The extensions were added on uisng the Kiss Superstick Lash Adhesive in Clear.
TirTir was not only on the carpet on Sunday night but at the Museum of Modern Art’s Tony Awards after party, too. The overseas brand had its own sponsored section, featuring a photo booth and a claw machine filled with lip gloss keychains and the internet’s current craze, Labubu dolls.
Erivo’s glam was pared down in comparison to her signature nails, this time embellished with 3D florals. Her gown, a Schiaparelli spring 2025 couture runway piece designed by the maison’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry, also added an air of eccentricity to her overall style with a stiff, off-the-shoulder, crystal bodice top.
The star has been partnering with stylist Jason Bolden since the 2019 premiere of “Harriet.” In addition to his work with Erivo and other A-listers, Bolden’s also taken creative styling opportunities off the red carpet. In fact, a little more than a year ago, he collaborated with Australian accessories label 8 Other Reasons to create an exclusive 25-piece jewelry collection, focusing on “everyday essentials.”
On the collection, Bolden told WWD: “I just went for my quintessential uniform where I like timeless, chic, smart and something with pure personality. It was just a perfect collaboration with 8 Other Reasons because it can speak to that, so that was kind of my foundation and fundamental inspiration for the collection.”
