Backstage at Carolina Herrera Fall 2017

It's so good to wear makeup.

It’s so good to wear makeup.

Amidst a season where simplistic beauty looks have been the norm, Carolina Herrera remained true to her polished aesthetic and turned out models in full faces of makeup.

Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics helmed the makeup station backstage, where models milled about in velour tracksuit jackets emblazoned with Herrera’s “Good Girl” fragrance logo on the back.

“It’s a smoky eye with a soft cheek, just a bit of contour and then a pink lip,” said Kendal, who used her collection with MAC to complete the look. “It’s just beauty.”

Kendal applied Rebellious, a deep blackened-brown pearlescent cream shadow, to the lids and lower lash lines. She applied Dynamic, a reddish bronze pearlescent shade, to the center of the lid and blended over, and then pressed on Glowing, a golden pearlescent hue, on the inner corner to highlight. Using her Kajal Crayon for MAC in a rich black shade, Kendal lined the outer corner crease and upper and lower lash lines for definition. Top lashes were given a coat of Haute and Naughty Mascara, and lips were colored with Marvellous, a pink shade from Kendal’s lip and cheek palette. As a finishing touch, an iridescent highlighter was applied to the waterline to make eyes pop.

Odile Gilbert for TRESemmé created the hair look — a super-sleek, pin straight low ponytail. “It’s elegant, soft — she’s definitely a powerful woman,” said Gilbert, who told WWD she was wearing a diamond and sapphire earring gifted to her by another powerful woman — Kate Moss, a friend of Gilbert’s for years. “[Moss] has the other one,” Gilbert said. Gilbert straightened strands with a flatiron, and then used spray after spray of Tres Two Extra Hold Hair Spray to create the shiny effect she was going after.
