At Calvin Klein, the beauty looks for both hair and makeup was about being all-natural. For makeup, Pat McGrath, who also is Global Design Director for Procter & Gamble Beauty, was after a clean and fresh look that used barely any makeup. On each of the models, she used SK-II’s new Jewel Treatment Mask. She then curled the lashes and used Max Factor’s transparent mascara. On the skin, she used concealer as needed, a little of Cover Girl’s True Blend Pressed Power to prevent shine and, on the cheeks, she based the color off of the girls’ natural flush. The idea was to create this flush and bring it out, which, to McGrath, made the look so pretty. On the lips, she used a lip balm. Guido Palau of Redken said that the hair look was all about a “simple set.” He used extensions on occasion, but tried not to make it too bold.
“It’s about simple hair that’s not straight and curly — it’s that natural texture,” said Palau.
Palau created the look by washing the hair with Redken Clear Moisture shampoo and allowing it to dry naturally. To get that natural movement he was after, Palau parted the hair off to the side with his finger and pinned it up halfway, tucking pieces behind the ears. “We want to get that impression that it’s understated, yet it’s still that chic woman,” said Palau, adding that he didn’t want the hair to be too shiny, but rather to have more of a matte texture.
