MILAN — Marcolin has set up a joint venture with Chinese eyewear manufacturer Ginko Group to boost its business China.
They have established a new company, called Ginlin Optical Shanghai Ltd. Co., which will distribute eyewear collections produced by Marcolin in Mainland China. The firm is held equally by Marcolin and Ginko.
Marcolin chief executive officer Giovanni Zoppas said Ginko Group and Marcolin are complimentary as each is a longstanding player in the industry and that the joint venture will “deliver extra value to the Chinese eyewear market.”
The new company is part of Marcolin’s international expansion strategy, which also included the acquisition of the American Viva International Group last December.
Marcolin, which recently signed a new licensing agreement with luxury label Emilio Pucci, currently produces and distributes the eyewear collections of a number of international brands, including Tom Ford, Balenciaga, Ermenegildo Zegna and Agnona. It additionally operates three house brands — Marcolin, National and Web.
