Cindy Crawford
Cindy Crawford is a supermodel who became famous for modeling for brands including Chanel, Revlon, Versace, Liz Claiborne and Maybelline. Her face has appeared on billboards and fashion magazine covers worldwide. Her appeal as a model for both luxury brands and mass market labels has made her one of the most recognizable models in the world.
When she was in high school, a local clothing store in her hometown of DeKalb, Ill., hired several local teenage girls to work for them, including posing for a photo shoot. In her junior year of high school, photographer Roger Legel was responsible for photographing young women for the local newspaper, DeKalb Nite Weekly. He asked to photograph Crawford and the result was her first cover.
In 1986, after attending Northwestern University for only one semester, she dropped out and signed with Elite Model Management.
Crawford became one of the top cover girls of her era and throughout her career would appear on numerous covers. It's estimated she's appeared on more than 600 major American and international magazine covers, according to a 2012 article by Tatler.
While she enjoyed an outstanding career in print modeling, Crawford was no stranger to a runway either. In addition to Chanel and Versace, during her career she has walked the runway for Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Calvin Klein, Valentino, Versace and Michael Kors.
Crawford retired from full-time modeling in 2000. She now has a furniture and home goods line as well as a beauty collection called Meaningful Beauty.
Despite not modeling regularly, the global superstar's schedule hasn't slowed down. Each year she cohosts the annual Casamigos Halloween party alongside her husband and the tequila brand's founder, Rande Gerber. She's also the mother of two model children of her own, Kaia and Presley Gerber. Kaia has achieved comparative modern-day supermodel status like her mother, and followed in her mother's footsteps working for Chanel, Versace and Valentino.
In 2023, Crawford appeared in the Apple TV+ documentary "The Super Models" alongside Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista. Crawford is also heavily involved in charity work for childhood leukemia and is a supporter of the pediatric oncology program at the University of Wisconsin — Madison.
