Beyoncé knows how to keep her fans talking. On Sunday night, the singer took the stage at the 2016 BET Awards, opening the telecast ceremony with a surprise performance along with Kendrick Lamar. The pair performed the “Freedom” track off of Beyoncé’s latest album “Lemonade,” which attracted a stream of scandal for its “Becky with the good hair” reference when it was released in April.
For the dramatic performance, which involved red smoke and dancing in a shallow pool of water, Beyoncé donned a custom Swarovski-adorned long sleeved bodysuit designed by Julien Macdonald. The look was styled by Marni Senofonte, who also worked on styling for the “Lemonade” album video.
She posted several photos and a video from the performance on her Instagram account. “This is my favorite song from her, period! This performance was everything, she is a force to be reckoned. Every time I hear that song I get choked up she is singing my feelings!” wrote one user, while another added “and that outfit was too many things. Just perfect.”

Beyoncé didn’t walk away empty-handed from the awards ceremony, either: She took home awards for “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist,” and “Video of the Year,” “Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award,” and the “Centric Award,” all for her song “Formation.”
The singer kicked off her Formation World Tour earlier this spring wearing a custom Balmain bodysuit. “Beyoncé is the symbol of freedom, the power of women and the confidence of extraordinary talent,” Olivier Rousteing had told WWD at the time. Next up for the singer is a string of concerts in the United Kingdom — which just last week voted for its own freedom from the European Union.
