Runway hair during New York Fashion Week harked back to the modified pompadours of 1980s New Wave. “You definitely see a lot of ’80s influences in the more cutting-edge shows,” said Jimmy Paul, hair stylist for Tim Hamilton. Paul is constantly inspired by New Wave as well as Ronald Reagan’s hair. “He had a dry look, but I like doing it with pomade … And Tim was thinking about architecture, so I made it linear, hard-edged,” he said. For Patrik Ervell, stylist Holli Smith did something “a little ’80s, but a little sloppier and slept-in,” she said. “Men’s hair is finally taking tighter shapes, in the nape especially, so it’s nice to exaggerate the length on top. I like to add a little curl on top and shake it out with my hands.”
