NEW YORK — Rebecca Matchett and Drew Paluba are promising on TV that their shirts will fit.
The team that launched the Rebecca & Drew line of contemporary woven tops last year are continuing with a new brand, called Sophie Hudson, launching on the Home Shopping Network on Tuesday.
Just like Rebecca & Drew, the new Sophie Hudson collection features TrioFit, a sizing system that was developed by Matchett and Paluba based on the three measurements of a woman’s chest circumference, bra-cup size and height. For the launch, HSN will feature Sophie Hudson shirts in 23 sizing options, ranging from 34B to 44G. Three styles will be available in two fabric qualities and seven colors. A stretch-cotton poplin button-front shirt will be available in baby blue, plum, black, white and a plum stripe. The line will also offer a stretch-cotton shirt with tuxedo ruffles in white or navy, and a band-collar shirt in crinkle chiffon with necktie and pleats, offered in plum, steel and black. Retail prices for the shirts range from $44 to $60, which is much lower than Rebecca & Drew’s $155 to $380 retail price range.
“From the time we launched Rebecca & Drew, we knew we wanted to offer a product that was approachable to all women,” Matchett said. “With the Rebecca & Drew line, it’s more expensive, so not everyone can afford it.”
Matchett declined to give volume expectations for the Sophie Hudson line, but did say that HSN has placed orders for spring and summer deliveries. Matchett and Paluba are in the process of patenting their TrioFit formula in preparation for the expansion of the sizing system into other items. They are also considering licensing opportunities.
