MILAN — Fendi is launching a Silvana Mangano Capsule Collection inspired by the concept of travel and by the iconic Italian actress. The collection includes items such as a trench coat with a fur collar; trolleys; leather and exotic skin versions of Fendi’s Boston bags; silk and cashmere foulards, and charms.
The trolleys are two variations inspired by Mangano’s original vintage Pergamena suitcases with small studs.
Mangano was a loyal Fendi customer and worked with the Rome- based brand for years, for example on costumes and furs for Luchino Visconti’s 1974 film, “Gruppo di Famiglia in un Interno [in English called “Conversation Piece”].
The friendship between Fendi’s creative director for accessories Silvia Venturini Fendi and Mangano’s daughter, Veronica de Laurentiis, sparked this homage to the actress. “Silvana Mangano’s innate beauty, natural elegance and sophistication have always been for me a great source of inspiration. Working together with her daughter, Veronica de Laurentiis, has been a unique experience as she transmitted Silvana’s sense of beauty, passions and uniqueness that are reflected in all the products,” said Venturini Fendi.

A portion of all sales will be donated to the Italian ONLUS created by de Laurentiis benefiting the first Centro Silvana Mangano, which supports women victims of domestic violence. “I love the idea of women helping other women,” Venturini Fendi said.
The collection will be available at selected Fendi stores from April 8 and on Net-a-porter from mid-April. The selection on Net-a-porter includes two trolley cases, a large travel bag and a lucky bag charm. “We instantly loved the motivation behind this collection. It embodies everything we adore about Fendi and it’s the perfect tribute to the fabulous Silvana Mangano, who is one of the ultimate Fendi women,” said Sasha Sarokin, the online retailer’s buying manager.
Prices start from 75 euros, or $80 at current exchange.
