Summertime for Cynthia Rowley is all about the five Bs: “beach, bikes, badminton, boats, BBQ.” And an April trip to Machu Picchu aside, she’s made Montauk her favorite vacation haunt. She has a store there, as well as in neighboring Southampton, and she just opened a boutique at the nearby Capri Hotel. “While we’re out on the island, we basically move from sport to sport,” Rowley says. “I just started kite-surfing lessons. Now I can go careening into beachgoers at 60 mph.” Here, Rowley talks pools, popsicles and pranks.
You sell more than just your own merch at your new store in the Capri Hotel. What’s the most peculiar item?
We wanted the boutique to double as a luxury hotel gift shop of sorts, so we’ve got international newspapers and custom-packaged candy too — you know, the basics. As far as the oddest item, I guess a driftwood corkscrew? Doesn’t everyone need a driftwood corkscrew?

How have you been battling the heat wave?
I take a dip in my pool every late night. And I recently discovered a stand-alone Popsicle maker that works in seven minutes, so I’ve been making “poptails.” I just have to be careful not to mix up the kids’ Popsicles with the adults’.

You’ve been on so many fashion reality shows. Which non-fashion one would you like to participate in?
I would actually love to see some new content on-air, like, say, “Runway Wipeout” or “Beauty Fear Factor” — let’s take it to the really real. I do like that show “Expedition Impossible” though.
You’re a big art fan. Who gets your vote for the next rising star?
I’m excited about artists like David Sherry, Hanna Liden, Peter Sutherland and Wes Lang. I’ve got all my standard faves as well though: Ryan, Richard, Rene, Josephine, Nate, Dan, Rob and Josh.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I like to make prank calls.
