“I never asked myself the question, ‘Why now?’ It just felt like the right occasion,” said Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche of his decision to come to Los Angeles and throw a party for the label’s West Coast fans at Chateau Marmont on Thursday night.
“It’s more of a ‘thank you’ moment because I don’t get to see these actors and stylists so often, and we’ve been working really well together these last few seasons, so I just wanted to say thanks,” he said. A troupe of locals had come out for occasion — James Marsden, Nick Young, John Legend, Lucky Blue Smith, Orlando Bloom, Anton Yelchin and Josh Hutcherson.
The popularity of the brand in Hollywood isn’t surprising to Assche. “Before men were not even supposed to pay attention to the way they looked,” he said. “Now, I feel like men dress because they want to seduce, because they want to look sexy, because they want to look powerful. That’s true for all men and I guess it’s even more so for actors.”

Marsden said it reminded him of his football-playing days “when the coach would make us wear suits to the games to make sure nobody misbehaved. You get dressed up and act civilized all of a sudden.” Marsden said the sight of so many actors suited up was a rare one apart from awards shows. “L.A. can be so schlubby, everyone’s wearing sweatpants. It’s nice to get dressed up for a change.”
There were a few women in the mix, but even they came to support the men. “You were the one on the invite. I’m the date,” Kate Bosworth said to husband Michael Polish. “Yeah, it’s the first one in like 300 tries,” he said.
