NEW YORK — For the four finalists of the second-annual Sally Hansen Healing Beauty model search, lunch on Wednesday must have been an excruciating affair — and not because of the food. After having their names announced at the start of an Allure magazine-hosted event at the Condé Nast (a unit of Advance Publications Inc., parent of WWD) executive dining room, the striking quartet had to nibble their way through three courses before learning who would claim the coveted prize.
Drumroll, please: It was 26-year-old Tiesha Wimbish, a real estate broker and part-time model from San Diego.
From an initial flood of 1,100 entries from across the U.S., members of the Sally Hansen and Allure teams winnowed down the options. Trump Model Management, which will grant Wimbish a $10,000 contract, was also in on the selection process.
“It takes literally a year to do this, so we’ll be starting on next year’s search right away — as in tomorrow,” said Mona Monaghan, senior vice president and general manager of Sally Hansen. “But this is real — they go to CVS, they go to Wal-Mart, they go to Walgreens. But it’s also a very ‘girlfriend’ thing, too. It was Tiesha’s best friend who really encouraged her to enter.’’
Both Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and Miss USA Shandi Finnessey were on hand to crown the winner, who claimed to have been surprised at the outcome of the contest. “Look at these other girls,” said Wimbish, gesturing to the other finalists. “They’re all so gorgeous.’’
