Natura Bissé to Launch Mindfulness Spa Experience

The brand is using virtual reality to add a mindfulness component to spa treatments.

A facial in 2017 is about more than just skin maintenance — spa consumers want a 360 mind-body experience aimed to increase overall well-being.

At least, according to Natura Bissé. The Spanish luxury skin-care line is to launch in March its “The Mindful Touch” experience, an immersive virtual reality video and audio set designed to help consumers relax during facial and body treatments.

The Mindful Touch starts with about 10 minutes of the client wearing virtual reality goggles, which reflect nature scenes, while listening to a voiceover that gives breathing instructions and encourages the client to be present and focus on body sensations. This VR component is aided by the Natura Bissé therapist, who is performing a corresponding massage treatment. The entire experience is aimed to give clients a meditative experience, and can be added on to any existing Natura Bissé treatment for about $50 to $60, depending on the spa location.

“When you go to a spa and are there for an hour, you need to have a complete experience,” said Patricia Fisas, director of innovation and product development for Natura Bissé. “Everyone is practicing mindfulness and meditation more and more, and we have to [provide] a 360 experience — a new dimension of taking care of yourself that includes treating not only the skin, but the mind and body.”

The Mindful Touch experience will launch to consumers on March 8 as part of Natura Bissé’s U.S. “bubble tour” — the bubble is the brand’s spa treatment environment that is literally a tented bubble that is said to circulate 99.9% pure air, free of pollutants, bacteria and allergens. The bubble does not have a permanent home — rather, it travels to different locations in which Natura Bissé is sold, usually in tandem with a product or treatment launch. This season’s tour begins at Neiman Marcus in Los Angeles and will make stops at Neiman Marcus, Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue locations in Southern California, Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, Texas, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois and Missouri from March to July. The bubble will also stop at Joseph in Memphis, Tenn.
