Dr. David Cannell, who served as senior vice president of research and development at L’Oréal USA, died Dec. 24.
Cannell, 73, joined Redken in 1972 where his work in research, product development and marketing led to his appointment as senior vice president. He worked on innovations including the CAT Treatment, Shades EQ Conditioning Color Gloss and Extreme Anti Snap, which are still present in Redken products.
When Redken was acquired by L’Oréal in 1993, Cannell became the senior vice president of research and development for all L’Oréal USA hair brands until his retirement in 2009.
“Dr. Cannell was not only a brilliant scientist but an incredibly generous person with his time and knowledge, always serving as a resource to others,” said Shane Wolf, worldwide general manager at Redken. “He was passionate about working with hairdressers and advancing the industry. He leaves a legacy of scientific excellence that continues to drive Redken as a brand today.”
Cannell is survived by his sisters Ethel Cannell Losee and Susan J. Cannell, his nephews Chris Losee and Jill Losee and his great nieces Samantha and Juliana Losee and Ali Caruso.
