NEW YORK — Olivier Creed is keeping it in the family. The House of Creed’s master perfumer made an appearance at Bergdorf Goodman last Saturday to introduce both his 25-year-old son, Erwin, who is to eventually succeed his father, and the new fragrance Original Vetiver, which the two created together.

Olivier Creed greeted 50 customers over the course of two hours and signed fragrance bottles. “I’m here to present my son to the public,” he said. The House of Creed,

which was founded in 1760 by Creed’s great-great-great-grandfather, has been passed from father to son for more than 200 years. Creed gave much of the credit for Original Vetiver to Erwin, his only son, who he said came up with the idea to use vetiver. “It is traditionally a men’s scent, but he thought — ‘why not make it for both men and women?’’’ Olivier Creed said.

When asked what it was like to collaborate with his father for the first time, the younger Creed paused for a moment, smiling. “He’s your boss and he’s your father, too — sometimes he’s more your boss,” he said.

Bergdorf Goodman was Creed’s fourth and final stop in a back-to-back round of appearances at several other stores, including Neiman Marcus units in Newport Beach, Calif., and Houston. On average, a brand like Creed can bring in sales volume of about $1,500 a day, according to industry sources, but the presence of Olivier Creed can drum up sales significantly — industry sources indicated that the company did about $10,000 in sales on Saturday.
