Backstage at Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2017

Dick Page for Shiseido created a rose-toned makeup look for the show.

Pretty was the name of the game backstage at Narciso Rodriguez Tuesday night.

“It’s super, super simple,” said Dick Page, Shiseido’s global makeup artist. “It’s a monochrome rose effect.”

“[Narciso] talked about things looking bare, things looking raw, a little bit undone because the clothes have very clean lines,” Page said. “He likes it when you wear the clothes in an easy way. So even if it’s a really tailored dress or coat or jacket, you can wear it like a T-shirt.”

To create the rose-colored eye, Page mixed Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Pale Shell and Sunshower, finishing the look with a hint of Full Lash Multi-Dimensional Mascara. Brows were filled in for fullness. “I’m trying to make the eyebrow strong on each girl,” Page said. Complexions were evened out with Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20. For the cheek, Page blended a tawny and rose colored lipstick.

“Overall, very, very easy, transparent, rose-based, super, super simple,” Page said.

Anthony Turner for Dyson created a bed head-chic look for the show. “It’s a bit of a trend, it’s another version of hair that we’ve been doing a lot this season,” Turner said. “It’s that very lived-in, product-heavy, few-days-old hair that feels quite youthful.…For a few seasons now, we’ve done hair that feels very fresh. Last season we were doing hair that was very shampooed, kind of clean and pretty — this time it’s very much more aggressive. It’s a bit dirtier, it’s a bit more lived-in.”

To create the look, Turner spread Wella’s Sugarlift and Bumble and bumble’s Grooming Cream through the hair, using a bit of water to dilute the formulas. “Both of those mixed together give it this kind of grittiness, a lived-in feeling, maybe like two or three days old.” To eliminate volume on some models, Turner created something of a temporary undercut situation using braids. To execute, he split the bottom half of the hair into two sections, braided them, and pinned them to the head.

Then he used the Dyson hair-dryer (with the smoothing attachment) and pressed his fingers into the hair while drying to create little bends. To finish the style, Turner created a messy center part and raked a bit of Grooming Cream through the hair. “It feels disjointed and broken-down,” he said. “It’s really cool downtown bed-heady type of hair.”

Deborah Lippmann created a clean, nude look for the nails using one coat of Gel Lab Base Coat, two coats of Brand New Day (the color she did to celebrate her new salon at Miraval) and a Matte Top Coat. “You have to wait like a minute to two minutes for the Brand New Day, which is a really sheer beige…to dry down,” Lippmann said. “Then apply the matte top coat. If you don’t wait, it won’t turn matte.”
