LONDON — De Beers is headed to the Tower of London to polish the official display of the British Crown Jewels.
The diamond company is teaming with Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that looks after the Tower of London, where the jewels are on permanent display, in anticipation of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 London Olympics next year.
A spokeswoman for the Tower of London said the Jewel House, where the royal regalia is on show, will remain in place, but new lighting and updated displays will be installed to enhance the exhibition.
The new display will also set out to explain the importance of the Crown Jewels to the British monarchy, the role of the Tower in protecting the treasures, and the history of the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The updated space is slated to open next spring.
