Nike’s Next Collaboration Borrows from the Boys

Menswear for women has been an enduring trend on the ready-to-wear runways for the past several seasons, so it’s no surprise that activewear is finally following suit. NikeLab has teamed up with Japanese fashion house Sacai to re-imagine classic men’s performance silhouettes into new styles with edgy feminine attitude.

Sacai Designer Chitose Abe — whose own Spring ’15 collection comprises such juxtaposed elements as delicate guipure sleeves on a stiff military-inspired coat — eagerly blended Nike’s material innovation with her unconventional construction.

“I’ve always been inspired by classics,” Abe said. “Working with traditional silhouettes and ideas that often come from utility or performance-based sportswear, I’m interested in creating new hybrids that combine different fabrics and shapes to create an unexpected yet wearable result.”

Nike x Sacai is due to drop globally Mar. 19. Expect windbreakers with flowing pleated backs, mesh-paneled leggings, culotte-like shorts and sleek sneakers in bold color combos like magenta and coral, and lime green and navy.
