Kim Kardashian wasn’t always the fashion darling she’s known as today. Before she built relationships with the likes of Balenciaga, Margiela and Mugler, the Skims founder was better known for her role on reality television. Thanks in part to her relationship with Kanye West — and despite her much-lampooned Met Gala debut — Kardashian became a style superstar, modeling couture on red carpets around the globe.

Although her marriage to West ultimately ended, Kardashian’s status among fashion’s beau monde remained. She launched her shapewear line, Skims, which has since expanded into apparel, lingerie and sleepwear, in 2019, eventually turning it into a $4 billion business. In 2023, she officially became a brand ambassador for Balenciaga, and today, she’s one of the most highly-anticipated guests at the annual Met Gala, which is widely regarded as fashion’s Super Bowl.
