H&M has launched the fifth iteration of its eco-friendly Innovation Stories, with the theme of romance at its core. Specifically, the retailer has invited shoppers to “fall in love with materials made from waste.”
“The design team wanted to create a collection about love, intimacy, and forging connections— not just with each other, but with our wardrobes,” concept designer Ella Soccorsi said of the Cherish Waste collection.
“Each piece has been designed to allow the wearer to express their true self, and to express their values by utilizing materials that combat waste.”
Soft, feminine styling pervades the range, which is made from recycled, repurposed or low-impact materials—from ocean plastics to recycled polyester and plant-based fibers.
Designed for longevity, Soccorsi said the brand hopes the garments will live multiple useful lives.
The line is characterized by eye-catching silhouettes and dramatic proportions, and design decisions are highlighted by the unique materials that bring them to life.
Other forthcoming products include bras and underwear, denim jeans, footwear, sunglasses, clutches, a leopard-print coat, a satin-like slip dress and bodysuit made from Renew cellulosic acetate, and thigh-high stockings.
Available starting May 5 on H&M’s e-commerce site and in select store locations, the Cherish Waste styles will retail for $17.99-$249.
“This collection is a celebration of love, filled with wardrobe heroes that feel comfortable to wear, even if they are dramatic, statement pieces,” creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson said of the line.
A convertible chain necklace and rhinestone earrings feature black heart details made from AirCarbon, created by microorganisms that ingest greenhouse gases to form the hard, plastic-like substance.
