    'Espionage' TV - 1963 - The Weakling -
Dennis Hopper.
GTV ARCHIVE
Espionage was a 1963 TV series, which consisted of 24 one-hour monochrome episodes. There was no regular cast or storyline; each episode followed the exploits of various "spies" as they did their "jobs". Some were complete fiction and some were based on actual case histories. The episodes featured spies for the West, for the Soviet Bloc, spies working for peace and resistance operatives, and drifted between contemporary times, the Second World War and the interwar period. One featured guest star was Dennis Hopper who starred in episode 2 of the series - entitled The Weakling. The episode tells the story of Joe Ferno (Hopper) who was drafted by Allied intelligence during World War II to infiltrate the enemy and give false information that would lead to a victorious invasion of Fortress Europe. He is captured and tortured by Nazi agents after they discover his true identity. Eventually he cracks and gives up his information, losing his mind in the process, unaware that everything he thinks he knows is lies.
