Prabal Gurung at Washington Square Park:
“When this pandemic hit, a lot of friends started leaving and going to their summer houses. But I live near Washington Square Park, my living room faces Broadway, and I really felt I was in the midst of a moment in history…As I started going to the protests there and elsewhere, I saw community building, and people coming together even in the midst of a pandemic, and that felt really hopeful. New York is a city because of its people.”

Ulla Johnson:
“I’ve been coming to Lincoln Center to see the American Ballet Theatre since I was a child, so the ability to work in this space to film our collection was a dream. New York’s cultural institutions have been suffering. This was first event they have done there since March. All the union guys on set, they hadn’t seen each other, it was so heartwarming.”
Phillip Lim:
“I moved my studio to Chinatown, it’s been a 10 year dream. Being Chinese, I wanted to highlight the community I hold near and dear. Everyone is so happy because of the proximity to delicious inexpensive food, and you open the door and there is life, I go every day to pick up produce and groceries at Bangkok Center Grocery Store, and to Mei Lai Wah for the best pork buns in the city. It’s my intension to support the community and represent. It would be a shame if this moment took away generations of small stores.”

LaQuan Smith:
“The Museum of Sex is one of my New York favorites because it’s about embracing sexuality, and that resonates with my collection and my clothes and the woman I’m designing for. It’s also educational, fun and a little naughty. It’s great adult entertainment, a cute location for a little date night. It’s one location you have to go to in New York.”

Christian Siriano:
“As a New York designer, the dream of a big Soho studio was something I always felt. We just moved into an old factory style loft that has original pillars, giant pane windows, all the things you love about New York architecture. It’s one block from Balthazar…before our old offices were uptown, which was an interesting vibe. This is a younger, cooler more creative atmosphere and it’s brought a whole new morale for everyone. We went back and forth with the team about moving the company to Connecticut, and we got really close. But I didn’t want to…New York still has an unexplainable creative force you are inspired every day.”
