The fireplace in the dining room is one of nine in the house. The whitewashed elk head over the mantel is from the Kennedy family’s trips to New Mexico.

Built by shipbuilders iin 1877, Kilkare retains its original pine floors and woodwork. Its second owners, Eleanora and the late Michael Kennedy, furnished it with Anglo-Indian furniture featuring caning of mildew-resistent hemp.

Camilla and Jonathan Edwards built Kilkare in 1877 as a place where cares melt away. The Kennedy family purchased the house from the Edwards family in 1975.
Kilkare is located in the Georgica Association, an enclave of the relaxed Hamptons bamlet of Wainscott, N.Y.
