Chinese fashion blogger Mr. Bags has collaborated with Longchamp for his first global and omnichannel collection, reflecting the growing international reach of Chinese consumers.
The collection is a spin on Longchamp’s signature Le Pliage Cuir line, adding paw prints in a nod to 2018 being the year of the dog.
The tote bag come in three different colors–black, pink, and blue–and Mr. Bags, whose real name is Tao Liang, added an extra zippered pocket to stash the wearer’s phone and passport.
The line also includes a clutch version which can be used separately or attached to a larger tote like a charm.
The release will come in several waves. “Bagfans” as his base is known, will have early access to purchase the collection on Dec. 22. On Dec. 31, Mr. Bags and Longchamp are holding a New Year’s Eve party at the Longchamp flagship boutique in Shanghai with a select number of bags put for sale there. On Jan. 1, the final phase of bags will be offered via WeChat and key Longchamp stores in Asia and Europe.
“For the previous Mr. Bags special collections, we only sell in mainland China, but we received multiple requests from the brands’ stores in the U.S. and Europe,” Liang told WWD.
Mr. Bags collaborations are known to sell out in minutes. No more than 400 units per style will be made globally, with a maximum of 250 units allocated to China for every style.
