    Leather dresses are always edgy, but this season designers took the style to a new level by introducing updated silhouettes. Designers like Palm Angels showed leather dresses with exaggerated stitching, and Proenza Schouler created dual-toned dresses with cinched waists.

    A nod to Edwardian-era embellishments, exaggerated collars left their mark on the runway. Designers like Brock Collection and Marc Jacobs showed a romantic aesthetic with the combination of a ruffled collar with floral prints, while Sies Marjan showed a rainbow-colored ruffled gown that started from the neckline.

    Always a go-to style on the runway, this season designers presented refined versions of monochromatic dressing, like Jonathan Simkhai, who showed an effortless silk slipdress over a shimmery turtleneck both in a soft pink hue, and Sally LaPointe, who paired a mint-colored leather jacket with matching tights.

    Designers brought a decorative aspect to their collections this season, with styles meant for those that have an affinity for dressing up. Khaite, for example showed a romantic, Edwardian-esque velvet blouse, while Zimmermann presented a long, silver metallic jacket over a layered look that added a touch of toughness to the feminine style.

    Designers didn’t shy away from color this season, looking to all colors of the rainbow, literally. At his debut show, Tomo Koizumi showed a collection of colorful concoctions in the form of avant garde dresses. Area, always a fan of rhinestones, upped the ante with a collection full of colorful gems woven into models’ hair and as playful fringe accents.

    Volume made a bold statement on the runways. Rodarte showed a fanciful collection full of embellished gowns that were decorated with ornate bows and ruffles and Marc Jacobs played up the silhouette with feminine feathers. On the more kitschy side, Vaquera exemplified the adage of “go big or go home,” with an oversize duvet-like dress accented with a large gift wrap bow.

    Pleats are timeless, but this season designers updated the classic style with more interesting elements. At Dion Lee, the designer introduced pleated skirts with sharp lines that gave the looks a tailored feel, and at Adeam, the designer incorporated lace accents into pleats, which gave the workwear styles a feminine feel.
