When asked to follow up her 2012 collaboration with Dita von Teese, Jenny Packham said her response was: “Thrilled — it’s always a pleasure to work with Dita and an exciting challenge for me creatively.”
For the second costume inspired by Jean Harlow, Jenny Packham created a silk chiffon robe in antique pale blue. It’s cinched at the waist with a ribbon and flutters with sleeves accented with ostrich feathers curled by hand. “The gown is covered with beautiful hand-sewn, prong-set Swarovski crystals in light sapphire blue and crystal blue,” she said. “The overall effect is fluid and mesmeric.”
Evoking Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda, Dita Von Teese collaborated with Jenny Packham in 2012 for a dress covered in giant crystal orchids.
Dita Von Teese is a fan of wearing Jenny Packham’s designs offstage. In December 2012, she donned one of her gowns at amfAR’s gala in Miami Beach.
Like Kate Middleton, Dita Von Teese wears her dresses by Jenny Packham to more than one party. She estimates having worn this Forties-inspired gown with strong shoulder pads and long sleeves enhanced by jet beadwork four times. Here, she was at the British Fashion Awards in November 2012. “It’s femme fatale — like Morticia Addams circa 1940,” she said.
