June 1984: The first Unique Clothing Ware- house — the pre-cursor to Uniqlo — opens in Hiroshima. (It closed in August 1991.)
May 2005: Fast Retailing buys Nelson Finance SAS (currently Créations Nelson S.A.S.), the developer of the Comptoir des Cotonniers brand.
Feb. 2006: Buys Petit Vehicule SAS, the developer
of the Princesse Tam Tam lingerie brand.
Oct. 2006: Fast Retailing opens the first store in Japan
for its GU brand,
a lower-priced companion brand to Uniqlo. It is located in Ishikawa City.
Nov. 2006: The Uniqlo New York Soho Store opens as the brand’s first global flagship.
March 2009: Uniqlo links with Jil Sander, paving the way for the German designer to develop a new range of clothing for the retailer.
Oct. 2009: The Uniqlo Opera Store opens in France as the brand’s third global flagship.
Oct. 2011: The Uniqlo Fifth Avenue store opens in New York.
March 2012: Uniqlo launches its collaboration with Japanese fashion label Undercover.
